The Mount of Olives – The Exact Place of the Ascension of Christ and “Small Galilee” with its Three Shrines – 2022 Pilgrimage

The exact site of the Ascension of our Lord, God, and Saviour Jesus Christ has been for centuries in the possession of Muslims. In 637, before the Muslims took over this shrine, the Holy Sepulchre Brotherhood cut the rock where the imprints of Christ’s feet were and took one of the imprints in the rock to the Patriarchate. The other footprint is still there.

The monastery called “Small Galilee” on the Mount of Olives explains some of the Gospel references that mention simultaneously “Stay in Jerusalem” and Galilee at the same time. It was a place where Galileans met and it was a Sabbath day walk from Jerusalem. There are three shrines here; The first appearance of Christ to His Apostles after the Resurrection, the place where Christ asked for food and was given fish and honey, and the place where the Theotokos heard the Annunciation of Her Dormition as she frequented this place after the Ascension of Christ.
