Support the Brotherhood of the Sacred Monastery of St. John of the Ladder
TrueOrthodox.eu is operated by the Brotherhood of the Sacred Monastery of St. John of the Ladder, under the omophorion of the Right Reverend Bishop Philaretos of Pallini and Western Europe. The Sacred Monastery of St. John of the Ladder is both the Administrative Center of the Western European Diocese, and the Bishop’s Residence.
Under the guidance of Bishop Philaretos, our small brotherhood faithfully undertakes all of the administrative duties of the Western European Diocese. Despite the substantial workload—caring for seven priests and diverse communities with varying legal and compliance requirements—this work has always been carried out voluntarily and at our own expense; without the Diocese placing any financial obligation on any of its members to cover these costs.
Our Ministry and Mission
In addition to working for the diocese, we are also responsible for:
- The Sacred Cathedral of St. Paraskevi in Gerakas, Greece:
We travel three hours round trip every Sunday, great feast, and many other occasions to serve and maintain the cathedral. - Catechetical and Missionary Works:
- Organizing pilgrimages to the Holy Land and other sacred sites.
- Hosting online spiritual reading and discussion groups three times a week.
- Publishing articles, videos, and podcasts for spiritual nourishment and outreach.
All of this is done completely free of charge while we fulfill our primary responsibilities: serving and maintaining our monastery and simply working to feed ourselves.
Our Challenges
Our monastery is self-funded and receives no grants or governmental assistance. Unlike heterodox organizations in Greece, we receive no tax breaks due to our commitment to True Orthodoxy. This makes it increasingly difficult for us to cover basic expenses.
Before the Greek Economic Crisis of 2009, we were able to sustain ourselves by creating and selling handmade Orthodox worship items. But times have changed, and each year it becomes harder to pay our bills.

- Translating and publishing previously-untranslated writings of the Holy Fathers into English.
