New Labourers for the Lord’s Harvest – Our Diocese’s Patronal Feast of the Holy Apostles Peter and Paul

Today was one of those rare days that remind us that the Church is never merely preserving the past—She is continually giving birth to the future.
As we celebrated the glorious Feast of the Holy Apostles Peter and Paul, the heavenly patrons of our Diocese of Western Europe, we also witnessed the ordination of James to the holy priesthood.
The timing could not have been more fitting.
The Apostles were ordinary men transformed by extraordinary grace. Peter was a fisherman with a generous heart who learned humility through bitter repentance. Paul was a scholar and former persecutor whose zeal was redirected by an encounter with the risen Christ. Neither was chosen because he was perfect. Both were chosen because they surrendered themselves completely to God.
The same mystery continues in every generation.
When the Church ordains a priest, She is not simply appointing someone to perform religious duties. She is praying that Christ Himself will continue His work through human hands. The newly ordained priest will stand before the Holy Altar, offer the Divine Liturgy, baptize, hear confessions, comfort the suffering, strengthen the weak, and accompany souls throughout their earthly pilgrimage.
Such a ministry is not a privilege but a cross.
Every priest discovers that his strength is never sufficient. He must rely upon the grace of God and upon the prayers of the faithful entrusted to him. A healthy parish does not simply expect much from its priest; it prays for him, supports him, and carries his burdens with love.
For our Diocese, this ordination is also a sign of hope. Though we are a small diocese spread across many countries, God continues to provide labourers for His vineyard. The Apostolic mission did not end with the first century. Christ continues to call men to leave everything and follow Him.
We ask the Holy Apostles Peter and Paul to intercede for Presbyter James as he begins this sacred ministry. May they grant him courage like Peter, zeal like Paul, steadfast faith in times of trial, and above all, deep humility before the Holy Mysteries he has been entrusted to serve.
“Pray ye therefore the Lord of the harvest, that He will send forth labourers into His harvest.” (Matthew 9:38)
May we never cease to pray for such labourers, and may we always receive them with gratitude and love.
