I Bet You Didn’t Know that There is an Anti-Apostle Thomas. I just Learnt it Recently!
Feast of the Holy Apostle Thomas- October 6/19
The Holy Apostle St. Thomas is best known for His palpation of the Resurrected Christ – something we celebrate on the Sunday after Pascha. His whole hymnology in praise of the Apostle Thomas (even today on the feast of his memory) is about how He touched Christ and then exclaimed “My Lord and my God”!
The very vespers of today’s feast begins chanting in praise of St. Thomas by saying, “Touching the side of the Master, All-Blessed One, You obtained the greatest of the good things”
Then I saw this photo.
Is this “deacon” scared of touching the divine Body? Is he avoiding “obtaining the greatest of good things” that we just quoted above? Are these pandemic days a time when the hidden things of many hearts will be revealed to us?
Apostle Thomas, we pray you to allow us to always receive “the greatest of good things” touching the Body of our Master!
