The Fragrance of Paradise: The Life of St. Irene Chrysovalantou
We have uploaded a new recording to our Readings and Reflections YouTube series. It is the life of our Venerable Mother Irene, the Abbess of Chrysovalantou.
St. Irene chose the love of Christ over the glory of an earthly kingdom. Though she was sought after by the powerful of Constantinople, she sought only the heavenly Bridegroom. She lived for over a hundred years in quietness and prayer, becoming a vessel of the Holy Spirit.
God showed His grace through her in many ways. You will hear of the three apples sent to her from Paradise by St. John the Apostle, and the cypress trees that bowed their heads to her while she prayed in the night. These show us what blessings God bestows to those who love and serve Him with a pure heart.
The recording includes the full reading of her life and discussion with Bishop Philaretos of Pallini and Western Europe, who translated the text into English as a young hierodeacon. We hope this recording brings encourages you in your own good works under obedience.
