New Publication: The Life & Canon of the Holy Prophet Jeremiah – A True Orthodox Translation

We are happy to announce a significant new addition to the body of Orthodox texts available in the English language: The Life and Canon of the Venerable Prophet Jeremiah (celebrated May 1/14), painstakingly translated by the Brotherhood of the Sacred Monastery of St. John of the Ladder.
This publication offers, for the first time ever in English, the complete, extended Life of this major prophet, providing a vital resource for the spiritual nourishment of the True Orthodox faithful.
Why This Life of St. Jeremiah Matters Today
In a world increasingly hostile to uncompromising Faith, the witness of the Holy Prophet Jeremiah resonates with particular power. This extended Life, based on the authoritative pre-revolutionary Russian “Great Collection of the Lives of the Saints” by St. Demetrius of Rostov, plunges us into the heart of Jeremiah’s fiery ministry. You will walk alongside him as he:
-
Is called by God from his youth to confront a nation that dangerously mixed the true faith with pagan ways and had fallen into deep wickedness.
- Boldly denounces kings, priests, and false prophets, refusing to dilute God’s truth despite overwhelming opposition.
- Endures intense persecution – imprisonment, beatings, the stocks, and being cast into a pit of mire – remaining steadfast in his prophetic calling.
- Proclaims difficult prophecies of judgment and captivity, fulfilled before his eyes, while weeping for the people he admonished.
- Faithfully preserves the sacred Ark of the Covenant amidst Jerusalem’s destruction, a testament to his priestly care.
- Serves as a profound Old Testament type of the suffering Christ, the “meek Lamb led to the slaughter.”
Reading this vivid account is not merely an historical exercise; it is an encounter with the courage required to stand for Orthodoxy against all odds, a powerful reminder of the consequences of abandoning God’s law, and an inspiration to persevere in Faith despite tribulation.
Don’t Only Read About the Saint – Pray to Him As Well
Complementing the Life is the full Canon to the Holy Prophet Jeremiah. Translated directly from the Greek by our brotherhood which is living the liturgical tradition, this service allows those who are moved by the Life of St. Jeremiah to also pray to him with his official Canon.
This Canon is perfectly suited for private prayer at home or for use in our parishes. Acknowledging the richness of Orthodox tradition, it thoughtfully includes both the Kathisma (Greek usage) and the Sessional Hymn/Sedalen (Russian usage) after the third Ode of the Canon, allowing for seamless adaptation to either Greek or Russian typikon.

Support the Mission of True Orthodoxy
As many of you know, our monastery faces significant challenges in sustaining its mission – supporting the Western European Diocese, maintaining the Sacred Cathedral of St. Paraskevi, caring for our brotherhood, and continuing our catechetical and publishing work – all without external funding or state support.
Purchasing this new English edition of the Life and Canon of St. Jeremiah directly supports these efforts. It allows us to continue serving Christ and His Church and to produce more resources essential for the True Orthodox faithful in the English-speaking world.
